UBC rowing program has focused on producing excellence in Canadian rowing for over 80 years. UBC crews and athletes have consistently achieved outstanding results at every level of the sport both domestically and at the international level. Over 80 Thunderbirds have been part of every Canadian Olympic crew since 1932 through to 2008 with the most recent gold medals won by Ben Rutledge and Kyle Hamilton in the Canadian 8+ in Beijing.
Our proud history has left a legacy of what UBC athletes can achieve. Today we work to uphold this standard of excellence in our current athletes and build toward a very competitive future. Our goal is to be the best program in Canada and to be Canada's largest developer of high performance talent. Since 2006 with the opening of the John M.S. Lecky UBC Boathouse we have created a strong platform for growth with strong coaching and ties to Rowing Canada. UBC has recently been named a Rowing Canada Talent Development Centre (TDC) which will further enhance our system of athlete development. The UBC TDC is part of Sport Canada's Integrated Performance System which brings coaching and athlete service enhancement from Rowing Canada, Rowing BC and Canadian Sport Centre Pacific.
For the aspiring high performance athlete we have all you need and we look forward to working with you to achieve your goals.
