
Marc DeRose joined St. George’s in September as Head of Rowing. Prior to St. George’s he served as assistant coach of women’s rowing at the University of Miami and the University of Central Florida. DeRose also held the positions of head coach of lightweight men’s rowing at Columbia University and head coach of men’s rowing at the University of Massachusetts. DeRose has a Bachelor of Science degree from Trent University (1996) and a Master of Science degree from McGill University (1999).
Darryl is in his first year at St. George’s after growing up on Vancouver Island. He joins the team after having rowed at Stelly’s Secondary, the University of Victoria and the Victoria Training Center. Darryl started his coaching career upon graduating from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Education in the Greater Victoria High School Rowing League where he has helped guide many fast crews from Stelly’s Secondary and Claremont Secondary.
Ronan has been involved with Saints rowing for 9 years. His rowing career started in 2002, and culminated in 2 CSSRA's national championships before he graduated in 2007. Ronan has been coaching the Jr. C program for 4 years. He also currently coxes the UBC Varsity men's team and the Canadian Under-23 national team, and hopes to continue to compete with both while completing his Bachelor of Commerce degree at the Sauder School of Business. Memorable highlights of his rowing and coaching career include winning the Grand Challenge at the Royal Henley Regatta in England, and watching his Jr. C quad win gold at the Delta Deas regatta in 2010.
Kate Strzalkowski is a first year novice coach at St. George's and recently graduated from the University of Oxford with a Master's in History.
The St. Catharines Ontario native started rowing for the St. Catharines rowing club in high school and later rowed for four years on the University of Michigan women's varsity rowing team. A four-year letter winner, Kate was a member of the first varsity 8 that won the Big 10 Championship is 2007 and a member of the crew that placed 3rd in the Championship 8 at the Head of the Charles in 2008. Kate also received the Academic All-Big Ten distinction and National Scholar Athlete award for every year she was eligible at Michigan and was named Michigan's student athlete of the month in June 2009.
Kate started coaching during her Master's at Oxford and coached her College's first women's 8 for the University's 'bumps' races.
