Teena grew up participating in various sports, including equestrian in which she had the opportunity to compete internationally, but didn't pick up an oar until her second year at UBC. The idea to row actually came from a riding coach back in Ladysmith, BC (her hometown) whose daughter had made the switch from riding to rowing at university. It had her hooked from the beginning (5:20am practices and all!). Now in her fourth year with the team she is proud of the steps she has taken as an athlete and as a member of the UBC community. Serving as a co-Captain of the varsity women's crew for the 2010/11 year has been an honour and is a reflection of what a couple of years of hard work can accomplish.
As a student, Teena is completing a B.Sc in Global Resource Systems with a specialization in International Development. This ties in with her love of travel and she has been fortunate enough to participate in development work in Swaziland and Peru. In the future she hopes to be back at UBC for a law degree in Human Rights.
Teena coaches for a love of the sport and a passion to give people every chance to lead active, healthy lives. Other activities keeping her busy include volunteering with therapeutic riding, being an executive member of Best Buddies UBC, and volunteering with the Canucks for Kids Fund (not to mention taking time to explore the natural beauty of Vancouver and surrounding areas!).

Chloe is a student at the University of British Columbia, and is working on completing her undergraduate degree with a specialization in psychology. She was born in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England. When she was 8 years old she moved to Port Credit, Ontario which is a town on the edge of Lake Ontario and where she would first learn to row at the Don Rowing Club. Never an athletic child, the first sport Chloe attempted was competitive swimming which paved the way for her future in demanding, highly time consuming sports. Chloe began rowing in Gr. 9, and has not stopped since. She now rows on the UBC Varsity team. Chloe’s favourite boat to row is the 2x (double), and it has always been her most successful boat- winning Ontario Champs in the Jr. 2x more than once, and recently her favourite race was coming from behind to take Silver at the Canadian University Rowing Championships with partner Andrea Bundon. Outside of the rowing world, Chloe enjoys other active pursuits such as hot yoga, hiking, and running. In her spare time you can find her spending time with her friends, watching online televisions shows, drinking coffee and eating peanut butter.

Justin Tang is a fourth year student at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. Despite spending the school year away from Vancouver, Justin has had the pleasure of coaching at the UBC Boathouse for the past four summers. He is an experienced junior rowing, learn to row, corporate challenge and adult rowing coach. Although he is not currently racing in the sport of rowing himself, he feels fortunate to still be connected to the sport through his coaching. Justin aims to coach with the follwing goals in mind: to promote rowing as part of a healthy lifestyle and to encourage positive athlete-coach dialogue. He believes these two goals are especially important for athletes who are beginning their journey in the sport. Justin believes rowing should be an activity that is both challenging and rewarding.

A water sport enthusiast since the time she could talk, Sharon has spent much of her life in or on the water. Inspired by her grandparents love of sailing and the opportunities they provided to her at a young age, Sharon was able to dabble in many water sports while growing up. Taking a keen interest in kayaking in her teen years followed by dragon boating in her early 20's, the love of the water has carried into her adult life. Sharon has a background in people development which has lent itself nicely into the art of coaching. She coached kayaking and led many group kayaking tours for a few years before taking off to university, and has coached dragon boating ever since her return. Sharon believes that coaching is as much about imparting passion and enthusiasm as it is about teaching proper technique and endurance. Sharon loves the sport and strives to pass this on to all those she coaches.

As well as being an active paddler and steers person on his own team, The Fraser Dragons, David has been volunteering for the past 5 years with the Junior Dragon Boat teams at the UBC Boathouse. This season, he will be taking over as interm coach. David has been involved in coaching a number of team building sessons out of the UBC Boathouse, as well as running various 4 to 6 weeks Learn to Dragon Boat programs and coaching and steering for the Drop-in Paddling program. David's passion lies in working with the youth and he has spend much time on the water with the kids from the summer community programs. Along with being safe on the water, David loves to hear the laughter and see the fun that paddlers seem to have working and playing together in a dragon boat. And yes, while he is old and bald.... he is very young at heart!

Fred emerged in 2005 as a first time dragon boater with the Fraser Dragons. In 2006 he became the Team Manager, as well as being a paddler on the team and a substitute steers person. By 2009 Fred was instrumental in putting together Richmond’s first senior’s dragon boat team to compete in the BC Senior’s Games, held at the UBC Boathouse, that year. Thus emerged the Twisted Dragons. In 2010, in addition to being Team Manager for the Fraser Dragons and the Twisted Dragons, he took on the responsibility of running the John M. S. Lecky UBC Boathouse dragon boat drop-in paddling sessions, which carries on in 2011. Fred is also coaching some of the dragon boat training sessions at the Richmond Olympic Oval indoor paddling tank. Fred always looks forward to the start of paddling season, even though for him, paddling really is a year round passion.
