Dragon Boat Coach

Job Description:

The John M.S. Lecky UBC Boathouse is looking for a staff to take over responsibility of its Drop-In Paddling program.

Start date: immediate

UBC Boathouse Dragon Boat Clinic:

The purpose of the UBC Boathouse Drop-In program is to allow non paddlers to come out and try dragon boating, to teach the basic skills of dragon boating to new paddlers, and to motivate new paddlers to carry on with the sport. It also provides a venue for experienced paddlers, who may be part of a local team, to get in extra paddling and training time. The goal of the program is to get enough new people involved in the sport that they will want to form a team of their own and carry on with the paddling experience.

Instructor Qualifications:

1.)    Minimum of 3 years Dragon Boat Paddling experience

2.)    Preference will be given for previous Dragon Boating coaching experience

3.)    Must be able to demonstrate competency in steering a dragon boat

4.)    Must have a pleasure craft boating license, and be prepared to take the UBC Boathouse Orientation for coach boats

5.)    Must have passed, or be willing to attend, an Emergency First Aid course (or already have higher qualifications)

6.)    Must be comfortable with accounting for, and reconciling, cash receipts and attendance records

7.)    Must be willing to commit to the UBC Boathouse Drop-in program schedule until the end of the Summer season

8.)    Must be a self starter and be self motivated to promote and encourage new paddlers to return on a regular basis.
