Team Sizes:

Eights: Sweep rowing - rowers have one oar each. A team of 10 participants consisting of 8 rowers, 1 coxswain (steers the boat) and an alternate.

Coxed Quads: Sculling - rowers have 2 oars each. A team of 6 participants consisting of 4 rowers, 1 coxswain (steers the boat) and an alternate.

Tips:

  • We suggest teams of 10 for the Eights and 6 for the Coxed Quads to allow for flexibility in your crew’s schedule.
  • Good teams have good coxswains. This person should dedicated to this position of steering the boat and leading the crew. They are small, confident, and have a great voice.
  • Team members should work for, or be a member of the club or organization. Spouses and significant others are welcome.
  • Size is not a barrier! Winning teams are the result of teamwork, enthusiasm, and determination.
  • All participants must have basic swimming skills

The Championship Regatta - Friday, May 28, 3pm-9pm:

The Championship Regatta is where crews will put their skills to the test in a friendly and exciting competition. Crews are guaranteed two races (weather permitting). Top placements will be awarded medals. More details will be provided at the start of the program.

Charity of Choice
The Vancouver Community Corporate Rowing Challenge will make a difference in the community. Event participants, sponsors and supporters are raising funds in support of Dynamic Opportunities for Youth, a national rowing program, designed to share the lessons and benefits of sport with youth at risk by teaching focus, discipline, goal setting, and promotion of self esteem. Each year, this program allows approximately 500 youth at risk to participate in the program for free in rowing clubs across Canada. Dynamic Opportunities for Youth is designed and produced by Go Rowing and Paddling Association of Canada, a non-profit Canadian Athletic Association, and registered charity, that exists to engage and participate in activities and projects that support, promote, and advance rowing and paddling sports in Canada.

Since 2005, the event has raised $11,000 for the program. In 2010, we hope to raise $9000, which will put over 50 youth through the program in the Lower Mainland this year! For more information on Dynamic Opportunities, visit www.dynamicopportunities.ca. To donate, please contact the John M.S. Lecky UBC Boathouse, or Go Rowing and Paddling Association of Canada.
