Brown Cup is modeled after the historic Oxford / Cambridge Boat Race where two eight oared shells race head to head over the winding Thames River. It is rowed annually each spring. The UBC / UVic Boat Race started in 1993 and the location alternates from Vancouver to Victoria every other year.

The 2008 edition of Brown Cup will take place in Victoria.
